Any tire repair must be done after demounting the tire from the wheel or rim. This is because damage to tires can be caused on the inside, which may not be immediately apparent. Leaving such faults untreated can cause sudden failure of tires. Any damage to the internal surface of the tire can cause the contamination of the steel belts and other plies in the tire and any deterioration in these can cause immediate structural failures.
Tires should only be retreaded if a minimum of 1.6 mm of tread still remains in the tread groove. Warranties are nullified if improper repairs have been carried out to the tire.
